Weather report – April 2019
In Plymtree April was a mixed month weatherwise. There were some short dry spells together with some pleasantly warm days, especially over the Easter weekend. Although there were some warm days there were also some cold nights with an air frost being recorded on several nights during the first half of the month. Hail was observed in some of the showers. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 68.8mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 75.0mm. This means that we received only 92% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 4th with 18.0mm. There were 9 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 11.0 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during April was 24.7°C on the 20th. It was interesting to note that only 6 days earlier, on the 14th the maximum temperature was only 10.1°C. The lowest temperature, -3.7°C was recorded on the 3rd. The strongest wind recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green was 36.5mph on the morning of the 27th in association with Storm Hannah.
