Weather Report – May and Spring 2019
In Plymtree, apart from a few wet days, the weather was predominately dry. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 24.2mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 72.3mm. This means that we received only 33% of the Dunkeswell average, making it even drier than May 2018 when we had only 43% of the Dunkeswell average. The total spring (Mar, Apr and May) rainfall I recorded was 170.1mm which compares to an average of 227.2mm at Dunkeswell or 75% of average. In 2018 because of the very wet March the spring total overall was above average. The wettest day of May 2019 was the 7th with 12.5mm. There were only 4 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 11.3 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during May was 24.4°C on the 25th. The lowest temperature -3.2°C was recorded on the 5th. There was also a slight air frost on the 10th. The strongest wind occurred during the afternoon of the 8th when a gust of 26.6mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
