Weather Report – July 2019
In Plymtree the very warm and dry weather that began during the last week of June continued for the first half of July. Although there were a few short and more unsettled spells during the second half of the month rainfall totals were generally small and it continued to be very warm. The total rainfall I measured for the month was only 34.5mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 66.8mm. This means that we received only 52% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 23rd with 11.5mm, when there was a thunderstorm during the late evening with frequent cloud to cloud lightening. There were only 6 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 10.2 days for Dunkeswell. It was a very warm month with every day, except one, having maximum temperatures above 21°C (70°F). The average daily maximum temperature for the month was 25.5°C (77.8°F). The highest temperature I recorded during July was 30.0°C (86.0°F) on the 25th. There were several warm nights and overnight on the 21st/22nd the temperature didn’t fall below 16.2 °C (61.2°F).
