Weather Report – August and Summer 2019
In Plymtree August started very warm and dry. However, it soon turned rather more unsettled and slightly less warm, although there was another very warm and dry spell from the 20th – 26th. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 90.0mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 73.8mm. This means that we received 122% of the Dunkeswell average. The total summer (Jun, Jul and Aug) rainfall I recorded was 212.3mm which compares to an average of 206.6mm at Dunkeswell or 103% of average. The wettest day of August was the 9th with 21.5mm. Thunder was heard overnight on the 8th – 9th and again during afternoon showers on the 11th. There were 13 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 10.4 days for Dunkeswell and 19 days with measureable rainfall. The highest temperature I recorded during August was 28.1°C on the 26th, which coincided with the August Bank Holiday and of course the Country Fayre. It did then rain that night. The lowest temperature of the month, 6.4°C, was recorded on the 29th. The highest temperature for the summer was recorded on the 28th June with a maximum of 30.6°C .The lowest temperature for the summer was that recorded in the early hours of the 6th June when the temperature fell to 2.7°C. The strongest wind during August occurred during the afternoon of the 10th when a gust of 35.8mph was recorded.
