Weather Report – January 2020
In Plymtree the unsettled weather that had predominated the second half of last year was still evident during January. However, rainfall amounts were generally much less than recent months and the period from the 18th to 24th saw the longest dry spell since last September. There was no really cold weather, although there were some wintry showers on the 28th and only a few frosts. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 66.4mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 112.5mm. This means that we received 59% of the Dunkeswell average and the first month since last July to have below average rainfall. The wettest day of January was the 14th with 13.0mm. There were 14 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 15.6 days for Dunkeswell. The highest temperature I recorded during January was 13.9°C on the 14th. The lowest temperature, -4.2°C was recorded on the 20th. The strongest wind during January occurred during the evening of the 11th when a gust of 38.0mph was recorded.
