Weather Report – June 2020
In Plymtree the very warm and sunny weather of late May continued for the first 2 days of June. After that the weather became more unsettled at times with showers or longer spells of rain. Although there were some cooler days, particularly the 6th when the maximum temperature was only 12.6°C, there were also some very warm days, notably between the 23rd and the 26th. The total rainfall I measured for the month was 104.8mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 66.0mm. This means that we received 159% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 18th with 46.0mm of which 22.5mm fell between 0900 and 1700GMT. Thunder was heard on the 16th with a thunderstorm on the 17th . There were 13 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 9.2 days for Dunkeswell. The total rainfall for the first 6 months of this year is 431.9mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 488.4mm. This means that we have received 88% of the Dunkeswell average for the period January to June this year, the very dry spring offsetting the very wet February and early March. The highest temperature I recorded during June was 31.8°C on the 25th. The lowest temperature, 5.4°C was recorded on the 9th. The strongest wind during June occurred during the afternoon of the 29th when a gust of 27.3mph was recorded.
