Weather Report – July 2020
In Plymtree the generally unsettled weather during June continued through July, although there were some short, very warm, dry spells in between. However, rainfall totals were generally small. The total rainfall I measured for the month was only 24.3mm. The average (1981-2010) at Dunkeswell Airfield is 66.8mm. This means that we received only 36% of the Dunkeswell average. The wettest day of the month was the 26th with 6.5mm and thunder was heard to the NW on the 25th. Despite the sometimes unsettled weather there were only 8 rain days (rainfall ≥ 1mm), which compares to an average of 10.2 days for Dunkeswell. However, there were 14 days of measureable rainfall during the month. There were some very warm days, especially during the second half of the month; with the highest temperature I recorded during July of 31.3°C (88.3°F) on the 31st. There were several warm nights and overnight on the 24th/25th the temperature didn’t fall below 16.3 °C (61.3°F). The lowest temperature, 6.8°C was recorded on the 11th. The strongest wind during July occurred during the morning of the 27th when a gust of 29.8mph was recorded by Pete Draper at Normans Green.
